As the command economy of North Korea increasingly deteriorates, the Kim regime has been inevitably faced with large debt and deficits. Consequently, the government has had to take drastic measures to obtain hard currency. Businesses strictly operated by the North Korean government have involved casino operations, North Korean restaurants, and drug trade; all which have allowed the North Korean government to get access to foreign currency. Most importantly, the North Korean government has engaged in dispatching cheap labor workers abroad where they are forced to work under very constricted conditions and harsh environments. The objective of this report is then to describe the current system and conditions of the North Korean overseas workers and expose the abuses of Human Rights that occur in them.
